The sophisticated yet simple to use MS500 Music Streamer seamlessly integrates both your internet based streaming music and locally stored digital music into one comprehensive device. It allows your digital library to be enjoyed with McIntosh’s legendary audio standards – including uncompressed, lossless files with up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution.

With all its onboard storage and external connection capabilities, the MS500 can easily serve as a central hub for all your digital music. The MS500 runs ultra-quiet thanks to two key features. First, local music and the operating system are stored on a durable 500GB solid state drive (SSD) that has no moving parts to create noise; second, a fanless processor combined with improved ventilation means noisy cooling fans are not needed. The combination of these two things results in there being no noise to interfere with your music listening.

The MS500 can automatically synchronize the content stored on your networked computers so it is readily accessible and playable. All your content can be backed up to the Amazon Cloud Drive, Apple iCloud or Google Drive. This also allows for your music to be synchronized across multiple homes or locations when an MS500 is installed in each location. New music purchases from any of these cloud services can be automatically added to your library for easy playback.

A set of balanced and unbalanced analog outputs plus two digital outputs connect the MS500 to your preamplifier, integrated amplifier or other audio components. The MS500’s high quality digital to analog convertor (DAC) is isolated from the motherboard, ensuring your music is reproduced with extreme precision and elegance when using either of the analog outputs. Any one of the USB ports can also be used to connect an external component with a built-in DAC – including select McIntosh products;² utilizing this external DAC, one additional independent audio zone can be created.

The MS500 utilizes a Linux based operating system that brings stability and is extremely responsive to user inputs. It is operated via the included remote control, a web browser or with free apps for iPhone, iPad or Android devices. UPDATE: MS500 and the end of Adobe Flash

The web browser user interface for the MS500 utilizes Adobe Flash. As of December 31, 2020, Adobe is no longer supporting Flash Player and they will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021. To allow MS500 users to continue using the MS500's web interface, we have worked with our partners at Autonomic to produce a new interface for the MS500 that does not rely on Flash. To minimize any disruptions in users accessing their MS500 via the web interface, we are releasing the current working version on January 11, 2021. This will be followed by a later version that includes the familiar McIntosh MediaBridge branding. To access the new interface, the latest firmware must be installed on your MS500. To install the new firmware:

1. Using a computer connected to the same network as the MS500, launch an internet web browser.
2. In the "URL-Address line" type in the IP Address Number of your MS500 and add "/config" to end of the address (for example: 192.1.168.130/config).
3. Select the Firmware Tab.
4. Select Update in the firmware Update Window.

Adobe ending support for Flash does not affect the free MediaBridge control app that is available for iPhone, iPad or Android devices, or the handheld remote control that is included with the MS500.

Be transported into your music with the MCT500 SACD/CD Transport.

The MCT500 is a digital only unit and features 4 digital outputs: industry standard balanced, coax and optical outputs plus our exclusive MCT connector. To enjoy your CDs, it can be paired with any product that has standard digital inputs and a digital-to-analog convertor (DAC). This includes select McIntosh home theater processors, integrated amplifiers and preamplifiers.

For SACD playback, the MCT500’s proprietary MCT output needs to be connected (via the included cable) to a McIntosh product with an MCT input. This includes the D1100, C53, C2700, C49 and D150 preamplifiers, MA9500, MA8950, MA7200 or MA5300 integrated amplifiers or MAC7200 receiver. When the MCT500 is connected to one of these devices, a secure digital connection is created, allowing for the playback of the high definition audio found on SACDs. Regular CDs can also be played over the MCT connection.

All common disc types can be played on the MCT500, including SACD, CD, CD-R/RW and DVD-R. A twin laser optical pickup assures optimal disc reading. A USB input is conveniently located on the front panel for easy access. In addition to store bought CDs and SACDs, popular file formats such as AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD128), FLAC, MP3, WAV (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and WMA can be played from user generated CD or DVD Data Discs and USB flash drives.¹

Disc handling is smooth and quiet thanks to an advanced disc transport with a precision die-cast aluminum tray. An advanced digital servo provides fast, quiet and accurate operation. A disc’s audio data is read at twice the normal rate insuring better disc tracking and error correction processing.

Integration with other McIntosh system components is achieved via the Power Control and data ports. The MCT500 is wrapped in classic McIntosh styling with a polished stainless steel chassis, black glass front panel, illuminated logo and aluminum end caps.

With the great success of our similarly retro styled MC275 and MC1502 Vacuum Tube Amplifiers, MA252 and MA352 Integrated Amplifiers, and the warm reception of the recently introduced MC830 Solid State Amplifier and C8 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier that also have retro touches, it's clear that many people want their home stereo system not to blend in, but instead to be distinctive looking. The MCD85 can play store bought SACDs and CDs as well as music from homemade CD or DVD Data Discs. Numerous file formats can be played from these discs including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD128), FLAC, MP3, WAV, and WMA. The USB Audio input supports up to DSD256 and DXD 384kHz, and can be used to stream digital music from a computer or other digital storage device. There's also two coax and two optical digital inputs that support PCM signals up to 192kHz.

Conversion of the digital data stored on the discs or in the digital music stream into an analog signal for playback is performed by a quad balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit/192kHz Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). Four DAC channels are dedicated to the left audio channel, and four to the right audio channel to ensure truly exceptional stereo sound reproduction.

Both balanced and unbalanced fixed analog stereo outputs are available to connect the MCD85 to your preamplifier, integrated amplifier, and other home audio system components. Thanks to its narrower width and balanced outputs, it can be placed close to your listening position for ease of loading discs, with long balanced cables connecting it to your audio system without fear of signal loss.

The MCD85 employs 2x read speed, meaning all discs placed in its sturdy die-cast tray are read at higher speeds, allowing their data to be stored in a buffer memory for better error correction and tracking. The tray features a new, custom front beveled nose to match the angle of the chassis and provides smooth and quiet disc handling. Disc reading is performed in the high-quality disc mechanism by a twin laser optical pickup that uses a single objective lens with two laser units, with each employing different wavelengths that are optimized for SACD and CD playback. Power Control and data ports allow for seamless integration with other McIntosh home audio system components.

A die-cast aluminum name badge is affixed to each side of the chassis. The front, top and rear of the chassis is polished to a mirror finish – just like on the aforementioned MC275, MC1502, MA252, MA352, MC830 and C8 – making the MCD85 a welcome and matching addition to any system using those models. But the MCD85 is not limited to systems using just those models as it has all the necessary connections and McIntosh design traits to fit into any McIntosh home audio system. The MCD85 features a black glass front panel with direct LED backlighting for improved appearance, silver trim, an illuminated logo, and rotary control knobs.
